Detroit youth across development(DYAD)LAB
The Detroit Youth Across Development (DYAD) Lab is led by Christopher Trentacosta. As colleagues for over 6 years, Dr. Trentacosta and Dr. Thomason have worked together on a number of collaborative projects.
Dr. Thomason was formerly a faculty member at Wayne State University, in Detroit Michigan, and during that time, she and Dr. Trentacosta worked to establish the perinatal imaging of neuroconnectivity (PINC) pregnancy cohort.
The PINC cohort is 300 families strong, comprised of children, currently 3 to 8 years old, that were enrolled into the study during fetal development. These children completed their first MRI studies even before being born! Children are being evaluated again at ages 7 months, 3 years, 5 years, and 9 years
- thanks to generous support from NARSAD, NIMH, and NIEHS.
Drs. Thomason and Trentacosta were fortunate to have recently been awarded an NIMH R01 to leverage this existing longitudinal cohort to examine prenatal inflammation, fetal neural programming effects, and child neurodevelopment. They will evaluate whether inflammation in the prenatal period exerts influence over the developing fetal neural connectome, and subsequently increases risk for childhood disorders. They will pair advances in fetal resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) MRI with innovations in tooth-biomarker assays to address prenatal neural-immune interactions.

COVGEN ReSearch alliance
For the first time in living history, the global community is united by a public
health emergency that will have significant social, economic and health impacts, the scope of which has yet to be determined. This alliance is focused on children around the world that are conceived, carried and born during this time, the COVID generation (COVGEN). Essential to the development of this next generation is the role of parents and caregivers, and understanding ways in which families are coming together and adapting in response to this unprecedented worldwide event.
In March of 2020, investigators across multiple institutions began sharing tools and approaches in support of global research harmonization. Baby BEEs investigators Moriah Thomason and Natalie Brito represent the COVGEN alliance in New York City, where the COVID-19 and Perinatal Experiences (COPE) study has grown with support for this initiative.

The ISLAND lab is a developmental psychology lab interested in the impact of the social and language environment on early neurocognitive development. Founded by our collaborating partner, Natalie Brito, the ISLAND Lab aims to understand how to best support caregivers and create environments that foster optimal child development.
